Senior Piping Designer

Operate as part of a team of engineers and designers in carrying out detailed engineering work; assume responsibility for conceptual and detailed design (Concept, Front End or Basic, Material, Stress Analysis, Layout Engineering, Coordination of 3D modelling) and provide necessary technical information for procurement in compliance with tender specifications/data sheets and within work budgeted man-hour and project schedules.

Good knowledge of piping design techniques and analysis methods, fabrication yard procedures and onshore / offshore equipment. Exposure to statutory requirements and codes applicable to onshore / offshore Oil and Gas industry.

 

Complete job description The piping designer will work with the engineering project teams to complete 2D and 3D layouts and designs of process equipment including piping, instrumentation and vessel diagrams.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the design and layout activities on projects under the direction of a Lead Designer
  • Use PDS/ PDMS and AutoCAD in all aspects of the design and layout of skid packages
  • Complete equipment layout, piping layout, general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics, and structural detail drawings
  • Evaluate the scope of work using P&ID’s and specifications to design piping systems while adhering to plant design standards
  • Display a working knowledge of industry standard drafting practices, good mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of engineering
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment; however, short term field assignments may be required

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical / Marine Engineering. (or Diploma with addl. 7+ years’ experience)
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry
Minimum 4 years of 3-D modeling experience
Minimum 4 years AutoCAD (release 2010 or later) mm and Microsoft Office software

Responsibilities and Authorities

  • Familiarize with the scope of work. Monitor changes in scope of work and raises change notification to the Lead Engineer.
  • Prepare / Review of engineering documents like calculations, specifications, philosophies, datasheets and drawings to ensure compliance with specification and functional integrity.
  • Provide technical directions and inputs to drafting personnel.
  • Carry-out single discipline checking of discipline documents / deliverable for the project.
  • Carry-out IDC for other discipline document / deliverables as per the approved IDC matrix.
  • Co-ordinate with other discipline / departments.
  • Attend Project review meetings and project co-ordination meetings in the absence of Lead Engineer.
  • Participate in technical review meetings (like piping 3D model review etc.)
  • Review of Vendor documents.
  • To implement QMS within the discipline.
  • To ensure Quality Control throughout the discipline, works with the Quality Management System and participate in regular quality audits.
  • Follow all applicable procedures and work instructions.
  • Keep continual improvement as a goal and apply Lessons Learnt on the past projects for better performance.
  • Review of Piping design document.
  • Preparation of piping specifications and data sheets.
  • Review of piping vendor drawings and final engineering deliverables
  • Review of all piping 3D Model.
  • Checking of Stress analysis report.
  • Review of piping support, MTO, Layouts, Isometrics etc.

Skills:

  • Good knowledge of the relevant Piping & Plant Layout codes and standards.
  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, etc.
  • Knowledge of project controls within discipline.
  • Fluency in English Language, spoken and written.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams environment.
  • Good inter-personal leadership, coaching, communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
  • Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
  • Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering.
  • Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work.
  • Experienced in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates.
  • Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work.
  • Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates
  • Competent in leading, supervising and the organization of a small/medium sized single discipline team within a project.

Offshore Structural Design Engineer

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to work with the structural design team for delivering Offshore design projects. The work diet will focus predominantly on design, assessment and substantiation design, substantiation and integrity assessment of offshore mainly secondary and tertiary steel structures. In addition, there are opportunities to undertake technical work on primary steel.

The work involves design and analysis for offshore structural design including topsides, jacket, subsea template and offshore wind foundation structure. Experience in the following is desirable:

 

v  Good theoretical basis and hands on experiences

v  Design of offshore substructures

v  Design of onshore structure for oil and gas facilities

v  Conversant with aspects of offshore environmental loading

v  Familiar with the installation procedure, fabrication process and capable of detailed design of installation aids

v  Competence in the use of software such as SACS and STAADPRO.

v  Familiar with the functional requirements of topsides structure, drilling derrick, jacket and capable of offering practical solutions

Responsibilities

  • To create optimal design solutions of offshore wind foundation structures with a focus on secondary and tertiary steel work
  • Produce design substantiation calculations to demonstrate design meets requirements from first principles or existing design calculations using hand calculations and or Finite Element Software such as SACS, Abaqus etc. The structural elements to be designed will include, but is not limited to, the following list;
  • External, internal and rest platforms of jacket structures
  • Beam sizing
  • Equipment supports
  • Ladders and stairs
  • J Tubes
  • Grout lines
  • Boat Landing system
  • Welded and bolted joints
  • Liaise with CAD team to produce and check structural drawings
  • Author and update technical documentation
  • Manage delivery against Time, Cost and Quality requirements
  • Support our Quality Assurance processes by reviewing (or checking) colleagues’ work

 

 

Essential Requirements

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in  Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in the design of offshore structures, including hydrodynamic loading, fatigue and barge transportation.
  • A sound understanding of mechanical and civil engineering principles and their application to varied projects and domains
  • Experience in the production of design documentation, including technical notes, report, drawings etc.
  • Experience in producing design calculations using MathCAD and Excel.
  • Experience in producing design calculations from first principles.
  • Experience in use of Bentley SACS software for design substantiation of offshore structures.
  • Competent in producing technical calculations of steel structures consistent with American Standards, Euro codes and DNVGL and other international standards applicable to offshore structures.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports.
